Each family is required to fill out an
application and mail it along with the five dollar processing
fee to our office. We can not stress enough to you the need
to be truthful to yourself in your answers. We can only meet
your expectations for a successful match if we know what you
are honestly expecting in a hound from us.
Once your application has been received,
you will be mailed an informational packet to give you an
idea of what to expect of a basset hound from our rescue.
Your application will go on file and be considered for every
hound who's particular situation can best be served by what
your family has to offer.
Every hound is an individual and has
it's own particular special needs. Once a hound has been evaluated,
we go through the entire active application file and search
for the best match for that particular hound. When an applicant
is selected, they are contacted by us and informed in full
detail about the hound that we have matched to them. If the
applicant is interested, then a meeting with the hound is
set up. If everything goes well then arrangements are made
to finalize the adoption.
Situations for every hound differ, and
so does the amount requested for donation for each hound.
In general we request anywhere from 75.00 to 300.00 as a donation.
The amounts primarily differ due to medical costs incurred
and the effort to help other needy bassets.
While waiting for a basset hound to be
matched with you, please be patient. Our primary purpose is
to serve the needs of the hounds, and so selection is determined
by the unknown factor of what each incoming hound may need.
You may be chosen quickly or it may take some time to find
the hound that needs you. In these past two years, we have
averaged placing two to three hounds per week.
We take great care and as much time as needed to find fitting
homes for these hounds. We ask that you not make snap decisions
in your effort to obtain a hound. We prefer that you are very
sure about your commitment to keep and care for your hound
for the duration of his or her lifespan, which can be up to
fourteen years of age.
We hope we may have answered many of
your questions about how we operate at Colonial Basset Hound
Rescue. If you have further inquiries, please feel free to
contact us. Or come and talk with us at one of our upcoming
events.
